According to Moscow, it was pneumonia of unknown origin and there was no accident at the lab. Yet sixty of her colleagues were locked inside the institute, two hospitals and a maternity ward were placed under quarantine, and teams in chemical and biological protection suits appeared on the streets. Pneumonic plague can be cured with antibiotics found in any hospital and it barely spreads, which is exactly why experts are so nervous. The Soviet Union produced large amounts of antibiotic-resistant plague, and Daria Shipilova's job was precisely to measure how plague responds to antibiotics. In this video we explain what the Soviet anti-plague institutes were, how they supplied strains to the secret Biopreparat program, and how Russia has spent four years using a sister lab in Odesa to accuse the United States of running bioweapons labs in Ukraine. We also look at Russia's new military biological facilities, the three possible explanations for what happened in Irkutsk, and what was really discussed in the October 9 call between Trump and Putin, where the word plague didn't appear even once.
