<description>🔐 Learn about finance with us in a simple, free, and straight-to-the-point way: https://www.visualfaktory.com/free-gift/ On 22 July 2026, while Donald Trump was threatening to strike another Iranian nuclear facility, Saudi Arabia's energy minister was signing a nuclear agreement with the United States in Riyadh. Article 7 of that "123 agreement" has a very telling title: uranium enrichment. It sets out a three-step ladder: a two-year joint study, a plant that could enrich uranium up to 5% and an open door to raise that limit to 20%, the stretch where most of the work towards weapons-grade uranium is done. Riyadh says it needs nuclear power to stop burning around a million barrels of oil a day for electricity. But Saudi Arabia has record-cheap solar power, its nuclear plans have shrunk from 16 reactors to two, and enriching fuel at home for just two reactors makes no economic sense. Unlike the UAE in 2009 or Iran in 2015, Riyadh has not had to give up enrichment or accept the Additional Protocol, and it gets to decide which sites inspectors can visit. Meanwhile, Mohammed bin Salman has said more than once that if Iran gets the bomb, Saudi Arabia will follow suit. In this video we answer three questions: what does Saudi Arabia really want, why has Washington put uranium enrichment on the table, and what could this mean for the Middle East?
